August 28, 2008

Absolute Poker is leading the online poker industry in innovation yet agian with the announcement of its new MTT Leader Boards competition.  On September 1st, Absolute Poker will launch a new, improved, leaderboard competition which rewards outstanding play instead of ‘grind’ play.

Obviously, players who spend a lot of time at the tables have a good chance of making a mark on the leaderboards, but our new scoring algorithm really rewards players who make it to the final table.

Here’s how it breaks down:  There are weekly and monthly leaderboards for both MTT and Sit&Go players.  There is also an annual prize for the best MTT players.  They have also divided the Sit&Go leaderboards into three classes to ensure that everyone gets the chance to really cash in.  The prizes are divided as follows: Read more

Online Poker Player Hits $741,741.14 Jackpot at Absolute Poker

June 6, 2008

Hey Poker Players,

You got to get over to Absolute Poker and start playing on those jackpot winning tables. Someone just won the second biggest jackpot in Absolute Poker’s history won Thursday evening.
An online poker player from Atlanta, Georgia has popped Absolute Poker’s latest Bad Beat Jackpot, taking home a life-changing piece of a jackpot that had soared to nearly $750,000.

The latest bad beat happened on June 5th at 21:33 ET when BUDYLOVE, an online poker player from Atlanta, Georgia, lost with Four Nines to a King-high Straight Flush in a hand of Texas Hold’em. Seated at one of Absolute Poker’s Bad Beat Jackpot tables, BUDYLOVE’s losing hand netted her $246,362.82 in cash. The pot winner, an online poker player named MAMEDURI, walked away with $131,126.80 in cash. The participants in the hand and those playing at tables with the same stakes split over $100,000.

The latest jackpot win was just shy of beating the previous Bad Beat Jackpot world record set by Absolute Poker last year. On August 29th, 2007, KADI, a Texas Hold’em player from Australia, lost a 10-high Straight Flush to a King-high Straight Flush, setting off Absolute Poker’s Bad Beat Jackpot bells to the tune of $821,670.69. Absolute Poker still holds the record for the largest Bad Beat Jackpot ever won in online poker history.

Since the latest Bad Beat Jackpot was so high, $185,435.28 was dedicated to the pot of the next jackpot. As of Noon ET on Friday, the jackpot had already reached $208,000.

In poker, the term ‘bad beat’ refers to losing a hand that is clearly favored to win. Normally, such a loss can leave even the most hardened poker player distraught. But at Absolute Poker’s Bad Beat Jackpot tables, losing a monster hand has the opposite effect. If a player loses a Texas Hold’em hand holding four 8s or anything better while seated at specially-marked tables, they’ll win a large piece of the Bad Beat Jackpot.

To help the jackpot build, $0.50 is collected from qualifying hands at Bad Beat Jackpot tables. The jackpot keeps growing until someone hits a qualifying bad beat, at which time a large percentage of it is distributed amongst the bad beat victim, the participants in the hand, and those playing at tables with the same game type and stakes.

Absolute Poker’s Liv Boeree Wins Major European Poker Tournament

May 20, 2008

Hey Poker Players

Look out guys, looks like the ladies are playing some great poker these days. Liv Boeree is on a role and Absolute Poker’s UK Ambassador has taken first place in Ladbrokes European Ladies Championship. Congratulations Liv!!!
If you’ve ever dreamed of playing Texas Hold’em against one of Europe’s best female poker players, look no further than Absolute Poker. Liv Boeree, the online poker site’s UK ambassador, finished first among a field of 53 players in the Ladbrokes European Ladies Championship last weekend.

“I’m utterly over the moon about winning the European Ladies Championships,” stated Liv Boeree. “It was a fantastic tournament with a great sense of camaraderie and a really tough final table that I enjoyed playing from start to finish. This is also a great boost to my confidence going into the World Series of Poker* which is drawing ever closer.”
The land-based poker tournament, held on May 3rd and 4th in London, featured some of the best female poker players on the continent including Annette Obrestad, the winner of the WSOPE Main Event. Liv Boeree placed first in the tournament, securing a commemorative trophy and $30,000 in cash.
In February 2008, Absolute Poker signed Liv Boeree, a former astrophysics student and aspiring 23-year-old pro poker player, to represent the online poker site in the UK marketplace.
Boeree began her poker career on the television series UltimatePoker.com Showdown in August 2005. There, she learned some valuable tips from Annie Duke, one of the poker world’s best female players, and caught the attention of popular online poker site Absolute Poker.
Most recently, Liv reconnected with Annie and gained additional insight and playing tips from the world poker champion – an experience that no doubt helped her conquer the Ladbrokes European Ladies Championship.
In a little over two years, Liv has amassed several top-10 finishes in Texas Hold’em tournaments across London including multiple first place wins.

Liv Boeree is featured in Absolute Poker’s UK marketing communications pieces and can be found playing in tournaments across Europe as well as online at AbsolutePoker.com.
