Smart Advertising
April 27, 2010
Marketing agencies are in constant look for the revolutionary and unusual approach. People no longer get easily amazed by a regular billboard, mag ad, tv commercial; it’s all practically the same: big headline, nice white teeth, hip track on the back and the catchy slogan for you to dream with. It still is effective, but this type of advertising has been forced to top its creativity to its max each time to be at least a bit memorable.
So, how about non-traditional advertising? Facebook for instance. Nowadays FB has become one of the biggest, if not the biggest, social networks there is. Imagine 200 million people logged in to the same network a day; that is 2315 users per second…2315 users…2315 users… (I can’t even say that number fast enough in one second). Every user has at least 60 connections to other pages, events or group: it’s the golden eggs hen. This is what you call long-range access. That is why top competitors need to keep themselves updated and do their homework. UB’s done theirs. UB’s Rai$e Loyalty Program has a FB fan page for their own, providing a space to share their experiences, photos, comments and to learn more about Team UB, hottest news and even enjoy the privilege of special tourneys registrations, such as $5,000 VIP Invitational tournament seats, VIP freerolls held on May 7th and May 21st at 9pm ET, among others. Make sure your players know about this, I’m pretty sure they don’t need to sign up to FB. Here’s the link:

And let’s not forget about my favorite toy these days: iPhone! As an Iphone user for the last years, I have to vouch for it. I’ve been hooked up into this small artifact that I carry everywhere; making calls and text messaging is a plus. Smartphones have lost their purposes, what do I need to call you if I can msn you from my little buddy? Or skype you, email you, even cheaper! And of course: my music, my pics, my videos, my apps! Apps-look-out is one of my favorite hobbies, and now Annie Duke is in my phone as well. The new Annie Duke Poker Tutor has very cool features such as the Tip of the Day, the way-easy to use Texas Hold’em Odds Calculator and a glossary of poker terms, for those struggling while watching reruns of WSOPs on ESPN. I believe our 2010 US Heads-up Poker Champion pro has quite a background to share. (PS: I NEED and iPad!
)
It’s all about the cool new tech and flavor of the month now, even for poker. We don’t have the luxury to stay behind, and as poker players make sure to have yours pick UB a la mode always!
To leave you with some traditional and very smart marketing, take a look at this video. It’s last year’s but has had some nice effect for long now, I loved it! You just don’t see this kind of thinking these days; people don’t use their brains anymore. Not these guys, judge for yourself:
